Admission Requirements

  • Hold Portuguese nationality or be a national of a European Union country[1]
  • Have completed secondary education in Portugal or a foreign secondary education in Portugal or another country[2]
  • Have successfully completed one of the following sets of national exams in 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, or 2022[3]:
    • (18) Portuguese + (11) History OR
    • (18) Portuguese + (12) Art History and Culture OR
    • (18) Portuguese + (03) Drawing OR
    • (18) Portuguese + (10) Descriptive Geometry OR
    • (18) Portuguese + (17) Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences

OR equivalent exams under a foreign diploma within the same period[2]

[1] Non-EU citizens may be eligible if they are not covered by the International Student Statute
[2] Check accepted foreign diplomas and/or exams here
[3] In the 1st application phase, only the results of exams taken in the 1st call of national exams will be considered.

The minimum application score to be considered eligible is 100 points. The School of Arts reserves the right to set a higher minimum application score in each phase, depending on the quality of applicants’ results.

The Board of the School of Arts reserves the right to set a minimum application score for each phase, depending on the quality of the candidates' results.
After the last phase, if there are still vacancies, applications will be accepted in order of arrival and based on the evaluation by the Board of the School of Arts.

One of the following documents depending on whether you completed Portuguese (a) or foreign (b) secondary education:

(a) If you completed Portuguese secondary educationENES Form (National Secondary School Exams) issued in 2026 (request it at your secondary school)[1]

(b) If you completed foreign secondary education, in Portugal or another country – Diploma certifying completion of foreign secondary education [2] (indicating the final grade and grades for each exam taken) AND Certificate of equivalence to Portuguese secondary education [3]

[1] In the 1st application phase, only results from exams taken in the 1st phase of national exams will be considered for the admission grade calculation.

[2] Documents issued in other countries must be legalized by a Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority in the issuing country, or bear a Hague Apostille, except if issued in the United Kingdom, EU countries, EEA countries, or EFTA member states.
If the documents are written in a foreign language other than Spanish, English, French, or Italian, an official translation must be submitted in accordance with notarial law.

[3] The equivalence certificate must be requested at a Portuguese secondary school in the candidate’s area of residence or directly from the Directorate-General for Education if the applicant resides abroad. Applicants coming from foreign secondary schools in Portugal
Applicants from foreign secondary schools in Portugal, whose results are only available after the end of the 1st and/or 2nd application phases, should contact: admissions.porto@ucp.pt

Applications must be submitted through the UCP Porto online application platform. Please ensure that applications are open before starting the process. During the application process, you will need to upload digital copies of the required documents, so please prepare them in advance.

If you apply before the national exam results are released, you may submit your application without the ENES Form. However, it must be sent in a scanned format by email (to candidaturas.porto@ucp.pt) no later than the application deadline of the respective phase (see step 2).

Changes to the application after submission

Any changes you wish to make to your application after submission on the platform (adding a course from the same faculty, attaching the ENES form or another document, or correcting any information) must be requested by email to candidaturas.porto@ucp.pt, attaching updated documents and identifying your full name and application number.

  • Information required by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (RAIDES survey)
  • Enrolment form and other specific documents to be indicated upon admission
  • Proof of payment of the enrolment fee and first tuition instalment (payment information will be provided in the communication granting access to the enrolment platform)

If the applicant is underage, documents must be signed by the applicant and their legal guardian.

Failure to enrol within the stipulated deadline will be considered a withdrawal.

Original documents certifying qualifications (ENES Sheet or other certificates depending on the case) must be submitted before the start of classes, on a date and time to be defined by the Academic Services.

This admission scheme is intended for Portuguese candidates or nationals of a European Union member state.

To apply, candidates must cumulatively meet the following requirements:

  • Be currently enrolled or have been enrolled in a higher education programme (in a national or foreign institution), provided admission occurred in academic years prior to the current application year. Approval in curricular units is not mandatory for eligibility, although the number of ECTS completed with a passing grade will be valued in the application score.
  • Have successfully completed (minimum score of 95 points) one of the following sets of national exams listed below (in any year) OR equivalent exams under a foreign diploma (see accepted foreign exams here)
    • (18) Portuguese + (11) History OR
    • (18) Portuguese + (12) Art History and Culture OR
    • (18) Portuguese + (03) Drawing OR
    • (18) Portuguese + (10) Descriptive Geometry OR
    • (18) Portuguese + (17) Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences

Ranking criteria: Admission will consider the final classification from secondary education, the grades of entrance exams, and performance in higher education (including the current degree programme or other higher education courses, or the completion of individual curricular units).

  • One of the following documents, depending on whether you completed Portuguese (a) or foreign (b) secondary education:

a) If you completed Portuguese secondary educationENES Form (National Secondary School Exams)

b) If you completed foreign secondary education, in Portugal or abroad (check accepted foreign diplomas and exams here) – Diploma certifying completion of foreign secondary education[1] (indicating final grades and all exam results) AND Certificate of equivalence to Portuguese secondary education[2]

This admission regimen is intended for Portuguese candidates or nationals of a European Union country who cumulatively:

  • Have turned 23 years old by December 31, 2025
  • Are not holders of a qualification granting access to higher education[1]

[1] The applicant is not considered to hold a qualification granting access to higher education if:

  • They have not completed secondary education; or
  • They have completed secondary education but do not have valid entrance exams (valid in the year they are taken and the two subsequent years)

The legal framework regulating access to higher education for those over 23 years old does not prohibit applicants from having previously attended university or a bachelor’s degree.

Applicants are subject to the following assessments (subject to change for 2026/27):

Commentary on a passage included in the Supporting Text for the Over 23 exam
Duration: 1 hour
