GENERAL INFORMATION ON WELFARE SUPPORT
Católica Porto has several welfare solutions, adapted to each specific case, and is always available to assess your situation. Book a meeting with us: send an email to ee.bolsas@ucp.pt or call 22 619 62 26.
I. Scholarships from the Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior (Directorate General for Higher Education)
Admission conditions for new students
- Being a student of a higher education institution (you can only apply if you are already a student of the University)
- Being a Portuguese citizen or foreign citizen with a permanent residence permit.
- The student cannot already hold the degree he/she intends to attend or a higher degree (e.g.: if he/she already has a degree and intends to get a new degree, he/she cannot benefit from DGES' scholarships).
Summary of the analysis criteria
- Analysis based on the previous fiscal year. Students whose household's per capita income is equal to or less than 18 times the Social Support Index in force at the beginning of the school year, plus the maximum fee for public higher education, may be granted a scholarship.
- The analysis criteria are complex and composed of different factors. If you wish to know them in greater detail, as well as to what extent they are suited to your circumstances, please book an appointment with us (ee.bolsas@ucp.pt).

Effort Fee
It corresponds to the amount that a student applying for welfare grants considers, in agreement with the University, to be able to pay. The Effort Fee is always required. Candidates for a DGES scholarship are encouraged to pay only the Effort Fee until the outcome of their scholarship application is announced. This student must hand in to Católica the DGES scholarship amount granted (up to the tuition fee) no later than one week after receiving the respective bank deposit.

II. Welfare Support of Católica Porto (AS-UCP) - www.ee.porto.ucp.pt
Features
Autonomous and optional application. When applying for the BDGES, you are not applying for the Welfare Support Program of Católica Porto.
Each student should count on partial payment of the tuition fee (Effort Fee). Católica's welfare support can only cover part of the tuition fee.
Católica's Welfare Support consists of an advance payment to the student. Once the course is completed, the total amount of the aid granted to the student will have to be returned to the University, without any interest.
Admission Conditions
- Apply simultaneously to the DGES' scholarship
- You cannot already hold the degree you wish to attend or a higher degree (e.g.: if you already have a degree and wish to apply for a new one, you cannot benefit from Welfare Support)
Effort Fee
This is the amount that a student applying for welfare grants considers, in agreement with the University, that he or she can afford to pay. The Effort Fee is always required.

V. Students with 60% or more disability
The Directorate General of Higher Education (DGES) grants scholarships to all students with 60% or more disability (duly proven by a medical certificate of multi-disability). For more information, click here.
